Al-Musayyib Technical College, a constituent of the Middle Euphrates Technical University, recently hosted the defense of a master’s thesis by researcher Dalal Sabah Karim from the Department of Animal Production Techniques, titled “Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Iraqi Protein Concentrate 6×1 and Organic Selenium Supplemented to the Diet on Productivity, Physiological, and Behavioral Parameters of Broilers under Feed Restriction.”
The study, conducted at the poultry field of Al-Musayyib Technical College and the laboratories of the Department of Animal Production Techniques, aimed to investigate the potential effects of supplementing broiler diets with organic selenium at a rate of 0.8 mg/kg of feed and Iraqi protein concentrate 6×1 at a rate of 25 g/kg of feed.
The results of the study demonstrated a reduction in feed intake by the birds, changes in body weight, improvements in serum indicators and hematological parameters, an increase in the serum antibody titer, and enhanced overall activity and behavioral traits of the birds, while also reducing the economic cost of the breeding project.
The study recommended the practical application of feed restriction at 40% quantitatively and 12 hours/day temporally, combined with the addition of organic selenium powder and Iraqi protein concentrate, as this combination produced positive effects on productivity, health, and welfare of broilers under restricted feeding.
